This page will be getting a major revision soon. But not tonight…
Christmas CD 2009 – By Matthew and Meghan
So, this CD has a similar story as 2008′s did. We had decided not to do a christmas CD, but at the last minute, I found myself strapped for cash, and thought “Why not?”. Again, Meghan was leaving in three days, I had to work. The only difference was that I kinda new what I was doing this time. So, we thought of 6 random songs and recorded them in an awful hurry. I’m not as big of fan of this one, but me and meghan are going to step it up on recording, so look out 2010.
1. It’s Christmas Time – Meghan covering The Weepies
One of meghan’s favorite bands, The Weepies did a holiday tune we slightly re-worked. This song was definately the hardest of all, simply because of the technical issues. At one point, my entire arrangement went corrupt and I was handed 117 random clips of the song to put back together. The lead guitar went missing while I was playing humpty dumpty.
2. Matchbox – Matt covering Carl Perkins
I originally went with this because papaw plays this, but I then discovered that Carl Perkins is awesome. I messed around with the vocals a bit, and I think this was my favorite recording I’ve done yet. Didn’t make my neighbors too happy at 3:00am christmas eve.
3. The Nearness of you – Meghan covering Hoagy Carmichael (or more realistically, “Sinatra”)
I programmed the drums, bass, piano in the computer, and it really did sound that way. It was really spaced out and very very slow. My aunt remarked that it made her want to smoke.
4. Golden Slumbers – Matt covering The Beatles
This one makes me really sad because it was going to be “Here comes the sun”, but it was 2:30am christmas day. I worked with what I had, and mom helped me out with extra piano, but I listened to it after I had slept, and wasn’t that impressed. (mom did a good job though)
5. Noel – Matt and Meghan
This was originally going to be a round, and I still think that would be cool, but we were strapped on time. This rendition, however, poped from the spur of the moment. This is merely the way we play “Noel” at home.
6. Over the Rainbow – Matt covering Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
I’ve always held a fondness for this version of Over the Rainbow. I got out my mandolin just before heading home during the storms of christmas eve and played with the window open. This is the 3rd time I’ve ever played mandolin, so be generous…
Valentines Day 2009
1. Not in Nottingham – Matt covering Roger Miller
So, I decided to learn this song, and I kept playing it for meghan when she was trying to go to sleep. I didn’t know if she liked it or hated it (for instance, she doesn’t like me to play “Do it in the Road by the Beatles”), but she did. So I recorded it and hid it on a mix tape for valentines day.
Christmas Music 2008
Christmas CD 2008 – By Matthew and Meghan
So, meghan and I decided in the year 2008 to do a cd for our family. The problem was that we decided this 2 or 3 days before she was supposed to leave to go see her family. I also had to work. We worked extremely hard for a couple of days to get stuff done. I ended up recording her vocals without beats, and splicing them together. We ended up recording things wrong on other songs. I think it was…charming. But, here it is in it’s entirety.
1. King of the Road – Matt covering Roger Miller
This one was specifically for my family, since I used to sing this one at camp when I was 5.
2. Folsom Prison – Matt covering Johnny Cash
Grandpaw had sang this on stage a couple of nights before recording, so it was meant to impress him…
3. Down by the river – Meghan w/ Matt
I wanted to make a rendition of this hymn after seeing “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” a few nights before. There were four claps on a loop. This was done because we couldn’t keep time worth a darn. Meghan’s vocals was recorded before the loop was made, so I had to re-arrange it.
4. Blackbird – Meghan covering the Beatles
This was meghan’s favorite beatles song, and I had only heard it once. So, I had to learn it that night on guitar for the first time evar! Kinda hard. Weird thing about recording: it turns out the microphone was backwards, so what you are hearing is the sound reflections on the wall, as well as my mouse clicks.
5. Let it Be – Meghan and Matt covering the Beatles
I wanted to do something to show that I had learned something on piano, even though I hadn’t really. So, I recorded this simple tune quickly at my parent’s house, and me and meghan sang to it at my apartment. I think it was pretty good for like the third night on ever playing piano for real.
6. Oh Holy Night – Meghan and Matt
Meghan Recorded the vocals on this without so much as a backing guitar. I spliced it, and played guitar to it. I wished we had more time, because I feel like the recording wasn’t as good.
B. Love Song – Meghan and Matt
This was for meghan’s family, so it wasn’t included on my family’s cds.
